Mexico City
This city makes a big deal of a New Year's Eve and thus, witnesses one of the biggest street festivals on this day. The celebrations are centred around the city's main square --- Zocalo -- and you can surely expect a lot of fireworks at midnight. While celebrations begin early in the day and witnesses Mexican street party, live music, band performances, dancing, colourful costumes, yummy food , at the stroke of midnight the locals make a lot of noise by shouting "Feliz año nuevo"; they hug each other and set off firecrackers. It is said that Mexicans celebrate New Year's Eve, by downing a grape with each of the twelve chimes of the bell during the midnight countdown, while making a wish with each one.

Las Vegas
This is the party capital of the United States and while the party scene is pretty wild throughout the year, on New Year's Eve you can feel the festivities hitting a notch higher. It is said that plans for the New Year fireworks is usually announced by Grucci of New York and they usually launch more than 80,000 fireworks from the rooftops of most popular casinos including The Strip's casinos, MGM Grand, Aria, Planet Hollywood, Caesars Palace, Treasure Island, The Venetian and The Stratosphere.

Rio di Janeiro, Brazil
Yet again, this is one of the biggest New Year's Eve celebrations that happen at Copacabana Beach. Though not many may know this, the celebrations and fireworks in this part of Brazil is as big as the Ball Drop in New York City. It has been widely reported that as many as 2 million people travel to Rio and celebrations kick off at 8pm at Copacabana Beach with live music shows that feature various genres from traditional Brazilian music to hard rock and roll. The fireworks here begin at midnight. Barges set offshore hold the fireworks and the show lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes.
