A report from China has indicated that Xiaomi might launch a low-end variant of the original Mi Max phablet in India later this month.
When Xiaomi announced that it would launch the Mi Max, the company's biggest smartphone, in India on June 30, many believed that Xiaomi might release the base model — 3GB RAM+32GB+Snapdragon 650 configuration.
Now, it has come to light that the company might release a low-end model with less RAM and storage in India, GizChina reported citing a screen-shot of the rumoured device's system information. In the photo, the Mi Max model features just 2GB RAM and 16GB storage. If this model does get launched in India, it will certainly leave many Xiaomi fans disappointed.
By launching a low-end model, Xiaomi will probably be able to price the device competitively so that it can give a stiff challenge to rivals such as the newly-released Moto G4 Plus and Asus Zenfone Max (2016). Even Xiaomi's flagship smartphone Mi 5, which is available for sale in India, is also a base model. It costs Rs. 24,999, Rs. 3,000 less than OnePlus 3.
