Volkswagen India has started a dedicated webpage to book the new Beetle. The webpage, with the URL bookmybeetle.in, allows prospective customers to book the vehicle with an initial amount of Rs 1 lakh.

The webpage also gives most of the information of the India spec of the Beetle, and the brochure is also available for download. The new Beetle will be sold in just a single variant in four colours: Habanero Orange, Oryx White, Tornado Red and Blue Silk.

The Beetle, which is also known as the "bug car" globally, will feature bi-xenon headlamps, front fog lamps, electrically foldable ORVMs, a rear spoiler, dual exhaust and 16-inch alloy wheels. The Beetle in its latest avatar is slightly angular in design as opposed to the rounded edges of the previous models.

The interior is updated with a dual-zone air-conditioning system, multi-function display, an audio system with eight speakers, panaromic sunroof, auto-dimming rear view mirror and cruise control. The Beetle will also feature leather upholstery and heated front seats.

The new Beetle is powered by an in-line four-cylinder 1395cc TSI petrol engine developing 148bhp and 250Nm of torque, mated to seven-speed DSG transmissions. The car comes with a 0-100kmph time of 8.7 seconds and top speed of 203kmph.

Volkswagen Beetle is not a completely new model in India. The car in its previous version was available in India in 2013, but was discontinued owing to poor demand. It would be interesting to see how the company prices the new Beetle, with estimates revolving around the Rs 30-lakh mark.
