The competition in the SUV segment is getting a tad interesting. Full-grown SUVs Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour have been duking it out in the Indian market for the top slot in the segment and in November, the former rallied to the top.
US auto major Ford brought the new Endeavour to the Indian market in January this year and the SUV has been presenting tight competition to the Fortuner since then. While it was not evident in the initial months, the Endeavour slowly and steadily won the race starting from April. The Fortuner, which was still in its older version then, was losing it to the Endeavour.
However, November has a different story to tell. If the emerging reports are to be believed, the Fortuner, which is now in its new avatar in the Indian market, bounced back to its glory in its segment in November. The sales of Toyota Fortuner stood at 1,924 units in November, as against Ford Endeavour's 562 units.
Japanese auto giant Toyota launched the new Fortuner in the country in November and the SUV is earning a tremendous response. With over 5,400 bookings and 16,000 enquiries already, the waiting period of the new Fortuner is also climbing up. Offered in six variants -- 4x2 Petrol Manual, 4x2 Petrol Auto, 4x2 Diesel Manual, 4x2 Diesel Auto, 4x4 Diesel Manual and 4x4 Diesel Auto, the Fortuner is priced starting at Rs 25.92 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). It comes with a 2.7-litre petrol engine or a 2.8-litre diesel motor under the hood.
While the diesel variant is tuned to generate a power of 175bhp and 420Nm of torque, the petrol mill pumps in 164bhp of power along with 245Nm of torque. The transmission in petrol is handled by a five-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic, whereas six-speed manual and automatic gearbox do the duty in diesel models.
On the other hand, Ford Endeavour, after the reshuffling of its variants and price in the country, is now available in five variants. The Endeavour has a starting price tag of Rs 23.78 lakh. Ford Endeavour gets two TDCi diesel engines under the hood -- 3.2-litre Duratorq five-cylinder TDCi diesel and 2.2-litre Duratorq four-cylinder TDCi diesel units. While the 2.2-litre engine develops 158bhp and 385Nm of torque, the 3.2-litre engine develops 197bhp and 470Nm of torque. In the 2.2-litre version, the engine come paired to both a six-speed manual and automatic transmission and claims to deliver a mileage of 14.12 kmpl with manual transmission and 12.62 kmpl with automatic transmission.
