Toyota Kirloskar Motor launched the new Liva hatchback and Etios sedan on Tuesday. The price range for the Etios Liva hatchback starts at Rs. 5.24 lakh, while the sedan gets a new name, Platinum Etios, and a price tag of Rs. 6.43 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai.
The new version is essentially a nip-and-tuck version, with more stress laid on safety features. The Etios hatchback and the sedan now feature a new V-shaped grille with chrome outlines. The bumper has been reworked to include more black-coloured areas, which gives it a more attractive look as compared to the previous bland appearance. The headlamps have been carried on without any changes. At the rear, Toyota has slightly tweaked the tail lamps, and re-sculpted the bumper. The other major upgrades are the newly-designed alloy wheels and electrically folding ORVMs.
The interior has been spruced up with renewed seats. The centrally-mounted instrument cluster is semi-digital now and a centre arm rest has been added for for rear passengers. TKM has given more importance on the safety of passengers. While dual airbags were standard across both the cars, the new version also gets ABS as standard across the trims. Additionally, ISOFIX child seat mounts on the rear seat have been added.
The powertrains of the Etios siblings will continue without changes in the new version. The sedan is sold with 89bhp 1.5-litre petrol while the Liva is powered by 79bhp 1.2-litre petrol engine. Both vehicles are offered with the same 67bhp 1.4-litre diesel engine option. All engines come mated to five-speed manual transmission.
