Suzuki Motorcycle India Pvt. Ltd. has launched a new Gixxer model with rear disc brake priced at Rs. 79,726 (ex-showroom, Delhi). The motorcycle, first unveiled at Auto Expo 2016 in February, was caught testing last year in Delhi. Suzuki also updated the fully faired Gixxer SF with rear disc brakes and priced it at Rs. 87,343 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The new Gixxer will be available in green and black dual tone colour, in addition to the existing colour options. The front disc brake-only variant will also continue to be available.
Apart from these additions, no changes have been made in design and powertrain. The new model is powered by the same 154.9cc single-cylinder air cooled engine. It develops 14.5bhp at 8,000rpm and peak torque of 14Nm at 6,000 rpm mated five-speed transmission. The motorcycle comes with telescopic suspension at the front and mono suspension at rear. Gixxer measures 2,050mm in length, 1,030mm in height, 785mm in width and carries a ground clearance of 160mm. The motorcycle weighs 135kg and has 12-litre fuel tank capacity
The Gixxer, launched in 2014, became one of the important products in the 150cc segment in a short span of time. However, the rear disc brake option wasn't available then even though some rivals in the segment offered this as standard. By adding disc brake, Suzuki will be able to further boost the sales of the Gixxer model. The new Gixxer goes up against the likes of Yamaha FZ-S, Honda CB Hornet 160R and Hero Xtreme.
