With the demonetisation of old Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes leading to a cash crunch, new rumours have surfaced, which indicate that new Rs 1,000 notes would be brought into circulation soon. The new notes are also said to have entered the pilot printing stage.
Rumour mills are also abuzz with 'images' of the new Rs 1,000 notes. It is also being said that the notes would not be brought into circulation in the near future, but over a period of time. The exact timeline for this development is said to be within the first quarter of 2017.
The image of the rumoured new Rs 1,000 note show it looking similar to the new Rs 2,000 note, but with a different colour pattern.
Secretary of Economic Affairs Shaktikanta Das had in November hinted at the introduction of new Rs 1,000 notes to replace the old notes of this denomination. However, only the new Rs 2,000 and Rs 500 currency notes have been released so far.
Customers can deposit the demonetised currency into their own bank accounts until December 31.
