At a time when new subscribers of Reliance Jio get to enjoy free 4G LTE internet, free voice calls, 100 text messages and free incoming calls, at least until March 31 next year, Panasonic has released the new Eluga Prim flagship smartphone that is compatible with the Jio 4G SIM. The USP of this handset is its branding, which is different from the cheaper Chinese phones and the lesser-known devices that offer sub-standard technical aspects in tandem with Jio compatibility.
Panasonic's Eluga Prim is priced at Rs 10,000 and comes with 4G LTE compatibility. The phone also offers dual SIM-card support. The launch of the Panasonic Eluga Prim is important as Chinese brands threaten to top the Indian smartphone market. As per recent data, Lenovo displaced Micromax to become the second biggest smartphone brand in the country. These statistics also indicate that Xiaomi may overtake Micromax shortly.
As far as Panasonic Eluga Prim is concerned, the smartphone provides users the following key technical specifications:
- 5-inch display having resolutions of 1280 x 720 pixels
- Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system out of the box; Android 7.0 (Nougat) OS update potentially possible
- 1.25 GHz quad-core SoC
- Dual SIM-card support
- 13 MP primary camera
- 5 MP secondary snapper
- Fingerprint scanner doubling up as the home button
- 3GB RAM
- 16GB internal storage
- MicroSD card slot for expansion of internal storage up to 128GB
- LTE, HSPA, Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi and USB Type-C connectivity
- 2500mAh battery.
As of now, the Panasonic Eluga Prim offers free Reliance Jio 4G LTE internet, voice calls over LTE and unlimited messages until March 31 2017. It is expected that the Mukesh Ambani-owned company would extend the free Happy New Year 4G offer beyond March 31 2017.
