Xiaomi has released the new MIUI OTA (Over-The-Air) update to its flagship Mi 4i in India to fix problems caused by over-heating reported early this month.
Many Xiaomi Mi 4i consumers had complained that their device got over-heated while playing power-intensive 3D games and also when tested under some benchmark apps.
The company had actually deployed the MIUI v6.5.4.0 firmware last week to fix the glitch, but it was riddled with new bugs, resulting in delayed response of the power button. It forced Xiaomi to stall the rollout process.
Now, the company's global head Hugo Barra (via Facebook) has confirmed that Xiaomi is releasing the new MIUI v6.5.5.0 series software patch to fix the over-heating issue and also other bugs. It also brings optimization tweaks to enhance performance of the device.
"Today we began an over-the-air system update of MIUI v6.5.5.0 for Mi 4i users. This is our first major update for the Mi 4i since its launch last month, incorporating feedback from many early Mi 4i users with a number of bug fixes and optimizations," said Hugo Barra.
Since the update is being rolled out in phases, it will take some time to reach all corners of the country.
In a related development, Xiaomi is holding a two-day Mi 4i open sale on Flipkart. During this sale, there is no need for buyers to get registered to buy. They can just log in to their respective Flipkart account anytime during the 48-hour window to buy the phone. The offer ends on Tuesday (26 May).
Xiaomi Mi 4i sports a 5.0-inch full HD screen and runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop OS (with MIUI) backed by the second generation Snapdragon 615 Octa-core SoC, Adreno 405 graphics engine, 2GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt storage capacity and a high-capacity 3120 mAh battery, which can power the phone for close to 1.5 days.
