It is no more a secret that India's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki is working on the new generation Dzire for the domestic market as the spy images of the model being tested on the Indian roads have started emerging on the cyber space. The next question that pops up in mind after watching spy shots is when the car is coming to the market.
While previous reports stated that the new Dzire can be expected in 2017 in India, Overdrive reports that the new avatar of the sedan will come to the market first, followed by the next-gen Swift. Although it was believed to happen the other way around, reports on the web indicate that Maruti could bring the sedan first as the competition in the compact sedan segment is getting tougher with the arrival of the new models. The sedan segment in India has recently welcomed the new Volkswagen Ameo, the facelift Honda Amaze and is soon expected to be joined by Tata Kite 5.
The work on the Dzire is said to be progressing rapidly and the model has also recently hit the road for testing. From the spy images we have seen so far, the Dzire is likely to get new front and rear bumpers with changes such as new projector headlight with daytime running lights (DRLS) and bold grille and LED tail lamp cluster. Other features likely to be seen include automatic climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, reverse camera and steering-mounted controls.
Under the hood, the new Dzire is likely to get the same 1.2-liter petrol and 1.3-litre diesel engines of the current model. Maruti might also bring a 1.0-litre BoosterJet engine along with SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology.
