Mahindra launched the third generation of the Scorpio SUV in 2014, while its pick-up derivative, the Scorpio Getaway, was left untouched. New spy images from the Mumbai-Pune express highway indicate that a new version of the pick-up truck is in the pipeline.
From the pictures taken by Motor Word India, it is evident that the new version comes with a fresh face in line with the new Scorpio. The Getaway is identical to the Scorpio till the C-pillar and the deck area too has been carried forward unchanged. The tail lamp is the same old unit from the first generation Scorpio that was launched in 2002 and that makes the rear look dated. The rear bumper has been reworked.
The design of the new interior is also borrowed from the new Scorpio. It will feature new dashboard, instrument cluster, four-spoke steering wheel and a new switchgear. The seat fabrics are also expected to be premium. The SUV is expected to be powered by the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit that develops 118bhp and 280Nm of torque mated to five-speed manual transmission.
The new Getaway features the name Pik-Up at the tailgate, which makes it clear that the vehicle is destined for the Australian market. Mahindra Scorpio Getaway pickup is not a bread winner for the company in India, but in Australia the pick up model has a high demand.
The new Scorpio is expected to enter the market by the end of 2016 and will go up against the Tata Xenon and Isuzu D-Max V-Cross.
