It looks like the UV maker Mahindra is back at its drawing table, this time to give its popular model the Scorpio a facelift. The images of what is believed to be the prototype of the new Scorpio facelift have emerged online, suggesting that the launch could happen soon.
The folks at AutocarIndia have shared the images of the new Scorpio, which was caught on camera while undergoing testing in Bengaluru. The spotted test mule of the Scorpio facelift is partly camouflaged, suggesting the changes are likely to be around the covered parts. In its new avatar, the Scorpio is likely to feature new front fascia with updated fenders and headlamp unit. The rear of the new Scorpio is expected to see changes such as new taillight.
While the overall body proportion of the new Scorpio will remain the same as the current one in the market, reports suggest that the Scorpio will see major updates in the powertrain. The 2.2 litre m-Hawk engine in the new Scorpio is expected to be re-tuned to develop power of 140bhp, a push from 120bhp. The change is also likely to be in the torque figure. The transmission is likely to be taken care of by the same automatic and manual gearbox of the current model.
Mahindra Scorpio is currently comes with three engine options--2.2 litre, 1.99 litre and a 2.5 litre. While the 2.2 litre is tuned to churn out 120bhp of power and 280NM of torque, the smaller 1.99-litre m-Hawk engine also makes the same power. The third 2.5 litre m2DICR engine with micro hybrid technology generates 76hp of power and 200 Nm of torque. In the new avatar, expect the Scorpio to see slight hike in its prices. The current range of Scorpio is sold with a price tag starting at Rs. 9.40 lakh.
