South Korean carmaker Hyundai has released a teaser of its B-segment SUV Kona that is expected to go on sales later this year broadening its impressive line-up. The teaser image gives a glimpse at the front fascia of Kona. The SUV seems to don narrow headlights similar to that of Jeep Cherokee.
Apart from Hyundai's standard front grille, there is not much the carmaker has given away leaving us to continue our vigil till it breaks cover. Add to the company's claim of 'bold, striking design and high interior refinement and spaciousness', the teaser seems to be doing just served that - tease!
Earlier Hyundai teased one of the headlamps of the Kona.
Hyundai Kona, which is expected to sit below the Tucson in the international market, is poised for its debut at the New York auto show in June this year. Kona is based on Hyundai Intrado Concept that was showcased at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is expected to be powered by a 1.0-litre turbo petrol and a 1.6-litre petrol engine for European markets. Kona will share its engine with Elite i20.
Kona will go up against Nissan Juke and Toyota C-HR. To be introduced in Europe first, Konda will also be launched in Australia and other markets later. As of now, Kona is unlikely for the Indian market as the company already has Creta in this segment, which is doing well in terms of numbers.
For the markets like India, Hyundai is rumoured to be working on sub-4 metre compact SUV, which will sit below Creta SUV. Hyundai is also expected to bring the all-wheel drive (AWD) version of Tucson to India soon.
