Fallout 4 is almost upon us, and prior to the release, a host of details for the game are coming in. While a lot have been said and written about the game, what we are more concerned about at the moment is the in-game perks and S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system that will open new avenues to fans.
Bethesda has been releasing videos on the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system and the Perks associated with it, but honestly, they don't offer a lot of detail on exactly how the system works. But the system isn't as hard to understand as you may think. We take a closer look.
Fallout 4 – S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system
So basically, the level up system in Fallout 4 is known as the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system. This stands for Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck. Each category of the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system offers 10 ranks, with a Perk associated with each rank.
Players can assign 28 points when they first start the game, then additional points every time they level up. Plus, there is no level cap in Fallout 4, and is completely open to how a player wants to build up his or her character. Each time the player levels up, he can select a new Perk from the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. system.
Fallout 4 – Perks System
For Fallout 4, there will be different perks that will give players different abilities or augment their existing abilities. In fact, some of the perks even have their own ranks as well, although most of them also come around with a level restriction.
Each S.P.E.C.I.A.L. category also includes a top-level Training perk. What this allows players to do is skip a normal Perk and instead increase the level of that S.P.E.C.I.A.L. category by one. Aside that, there are a plethora of in-game magazines that also contain Perks. As of now, there are some 100 magazines and comic books in the game revealed, all of which will grant special Perks that players won't be able to get any other way.
Here's a guided video that will update you fully on the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. and Perks system:
