A new Call of Duty game, from the Black Ops series, is coming soon and it is not much of a secret.
There have been countless reports in the last few weeks about how the new game will incorporate human augmentations into the mix, drawing a bit of banter from the folks over at Square Enix, who carved out similarities between the new Call of Duty game and their own Deus Ex title.
Heading back to the topic in hand, the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has already received a brand new reveal trailer that has detailed players on bits and parts about the overall concept of the game. However, it seems like there's even more information for the game, courtesy Reddit, related to the game's Zombie mode.
According to a Redditor, who claims to be "one of many marketing interns at Activision," details about the new game's Zombie mode have been unearthed "directly through corporate papers," although that leads us to wonder what the "corporate papers" were doing out in the open in the first place.
The report states that Treyarch is currently experimenting with a brand new ranking system that will scale players from level 1 to level 40, "with positive XP being a result of in-game actions (a combination of kills, headshots, revives, perks drunken, etc)."
However, XP will be depleted via negative actions (revives missed, deaths, 'game-over's prior to round 15, quitting, and so on). Also, the player's rank can be lowered, "and poor players - including griefers - will be made easily visible."
Apart from that, it was revealed that Treyarch has been adamant about keeping the in-game mode accessible and balanced. As of now, level-ups will not crucially affect gameplay and, rather, can be used to unlock emblems (usable across zombies, multiplayer, and campaign). The level-ups are also said to offer slight gameplay changes – including quicker revives, extra health and faster movement speed.
There will be as many as four different maps for the mode (documents describing them as 'locales'), with their own unique set of quirks, weapons and atmospheres. The first map, Zeitgeist, is set in a 'steampunk Chicago,' and is the only map to feature advanced movement capabilities (thrust jumps, slides and wall-running).
The map is intended to act as a gateway to a character called Samantha's subconscious, offering dream-like imagery that will plague most of the map. The report states that the map is like an "LSD Dream Simulator -- large animals wreaking havoc through the streets, bright neon colours juxtaposing steampunk styles, etc," and is probably the most unique map to date.
The second map, presently unnamed, will see players control Dr Maxis and three other German scientists in the Maxis Mansion. "The entire basement of the mansion acts as a gritty, electrically fused pseudo-lab. Samantha is used as a source of intellectual power; through one of Maxis's "technological wonders", her imagination is allowed to run wild and give birth to her and Eddy's "zombie playtime" -- in the real world," the report adds.
The third map, also without a name, is set in a German village that will serve as the largest map in the game. The events in the map follows the four scientists, "after having constructed their vehicle and driven uptown." The Map is also said to have gathered "inspiration from the Silent Hill franchise; lots of creative monsters, eerie music, sirens, etc."
"The map is seemingly the most detailed to date; every village building is explorable. New procedural generation techniques assisted heavily in the map's development process."
"The map's Easter egg centres around the long journey to a generator mid-town. Maxis has requested Samantha to overcharge the generator, creating a rift in space and sending them to a location of his choosing -- Giza. His goal is to put a stop to the 'worldwide curse' (not my wording)," it adds.
The fourth and final map will cast the four original heroes (Dempsey, Nikolai, Takeo, Richtofen) at the Pyramids of Giza in map called 'Nile.'
The Redditor claims that we will get to hear more about the game and its zombie mode at this year's Gamescom event.
