Italian carmaker Fiat is reportedly mulling to bring new Argo hatchback to India. The model will phase out the ageing Punto from the Indian market. Argo, as expected, will be launched in the Latin American markets in the coming months.
Designed and developed by the Brazilian arm of Fiat, the latest hatchback is named after Greek mythical ship, Argo and its images have surfaced online recently. However, there is still no word from the company on the Indian launch. If emerging reports are any indication, the Fiat Argo could enter Indian terrains by early 2019.
The new Argo gets contemporary styling with contrast colour on the roof and edgy bumpers. The fresh design includes swept back LED headlight, wide grille at the front and wraparound split taillamps. Inside, the Argo gets a neat and simple cabin with features such as 7-inch touchscreen multimedia infotainment screen and 3.5-inch driver-information-display in the instrument cluster.
In Brazil, the Argo gets three engine and three transmission options--1.0-litre Firefly 3-cyl engine producing 77hp and 107Nm, 1.3-litre 4-cyl motor developing 112hp and 139Nm and 1.8-litre, 4-cyl, 'E.torQ Evo VIS' motor developing 140hp and 189Nm. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual transmission, a 5-speed AMT and a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine options of the India-spec model are kept under the wraps.
