Malayalam veteran actor Jagathy Sreekumar's "Pista" song became an instant hit after it was remixed by Shabareesh Varma for the Alphonse Puthren directorial "Neram" in 2013. The peppy number has now got global recognition after being used in the promo of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) 2016.
The promo song, which begins with the lines "Pistah Suma Kira So Maari Jama Kiraaya," shows effigies of cricketers from different IPL teams, including Lasith Malinga, Yuvraj Singh, MS Dhoni, Mitchell Johnson, Glenn Maxwell, Suresh Raina, Shikhar Dhawan, Sachin Tendulkar, Navjot Singh Sidhu, Zaheer Khan and others brought to a street filled with cheering fans. The colourful one-minute long promo song, which was first broadcast during the T20 match between India and Pakistan, has also gone viral on social media.
The remix song is composed by Rajesh Murugesan and is sung by Shabareesh. "This is so overwhelming!!! Honoured ‪#‎Pistah‬ in ‪#‎IPL‬," wrote Shabareesh on his Facebook page, while sharing the video of the promo song of IPL.

The "Pista" song was initially penned by Jagathy for the 1983 movie "Kinnaram" and the additional lyrics were added by Shabareesh for the Nivin Pauly and Nazriya Nazim starrer as a tribute to Jagathy, who met with an accident in 2012. Soon after the release of the fast number, it went viral on social media and has been viewed more than 10 million times on the YouTube channel of Think Music India.

Meanwhile, superhit movie "Neram" is being remade into Telugu by Ani Kanneganti as "Run," starring Sundeep Kishan and Anisha Ambrose. It is scheduled to hit screens March 23.
