Telugu movie "Nenu Sailaja" has started 2016 with a bang and done superb collection at the box office on the first day. It has become the biggest opener for Ram, beating the record of "Pandaga Chesko".
In recent years, Ram tried to break away from his chocolate hero image and become a mass hero with his movies like "Ongole Githa", "Masala", "Pandaga Chesko" and "Shivam". But all of them failed to get him a much-needed break to the actor. With "Nenu Sailaja", the actor has returned to the genre in which he is good at.
Ever since it was announced, "Nenu Sailaja" has been creating ripples in the media for all the good reasons. Its promos have generated a lot of attention and also raised the viewers' expectations. In addition, the makers have shelled out hefty sum on its promotion. The hype and promotion helped it register superb advance booking. Trade experts from T-Town predicted that it would start with a bang at the box office.
The makers of "Nenu Sailaja" held paid premiere shows in some locations in the US on Thursday night and the film witnessed very good amount of footfalls. They started benefit shows in many locations across Andhra Pradesh and Telangana in the wee hours of Friday and it registered superb response.
As predicted, "Nenu Sailaja" opened to fantastic response in the regular morning show of Friday and its occupancy crossed an average of 70% in the Telugu states. The movie garnered positive response from the viewers and critics and the word-of-mouth took its business upwards in the afternoon and evening shows. The film has also registered very good response in the other parts of India.
The numbers from various locations are still being compiled and the makers are yet to announce the first day collection of "Nenu Sailaja". If we are to go by early estimates, the Ram and Keerthi Suresh starrer has grossed approximately Rs 6+ crore at the Indian box office on the first day. Its distributors' share stands at Rs 4+ crore on its opening day.
"Nenu Sailaja" is estimated to have earned a share of Rs 3.4 crore to its distributors of the Telugu states on its opening day. The film is estimated to have earned approximately Rs 28 lakh in Krishna, Rs 29 lakh in Vizag and Rs 65 lakh (Rs 80 lakh gross) in Ceded. "Nenu Sailaja" was released in 60+ cinema halls across North America, where it has got brilliant response. The movie is estimated to have collected $123,715 (Rs 81.46 lakh) from 54 screens at the US box office on Thursday Premiers and Friday. It has not only become the biggest opener for Ram, but is also likely to emerge as his highest grosser in the country in its opening weekend.
