After the Supreme Court quashed an appeal of medical aspirants in Uttar Pradesh who wanted to extend the date for National Eligibility and Entrance Test (NEET) scheduled for May 7, the helpless students on Thursday approached Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.
But as the CM was not in town, they had to make do with officials present in the CM's office. They submitted their memorandum requesting for an extension of NEET.
The UP board students have said that as a result of the elections in the state, the intermediate examinations got pushed by a month leaving them with less time to prepare for NEET. Besides an early date of NEET this year, as against July last year, is also going to hamper their performance.
"Almost one lakh students will be affected since there is just no time for revision, especially when the syllabus was shifted from that of UP board books to NCERT ones," Navneet Tripathi, an aspirant told Times of India.
The aspirants have also mentioned in their letter to the CM that as both the UP board exams and CBSE exams of class XII are ending by April-end, they would not have sufficient time to revise the class XI syllabus that is also part of NEET pattern.
Ghulam Nabi, another aspirant said, "The last date for admissions to MBBS and BDS is September 31, which is five months from now. Given the impact NEET has on students from the state, the chief minister should consider taking up the issue with the authorities."
