Security forces killed a suspected militant of Songbijit faction of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB-S) in an encounter in Assam's Chirang district early on Tuesday.
According to reports, a joint team of Assam Police and Central Reserve Police Force's (CRPF) Cobra battalion acted after a tip-off and killed 24-year-old Rinsar Narzary in an the encounter. The deceased was allegedly involved in the killings of tribal villagers in Kokrajhar in December 2014.
"The encounter took place at about 3.30 AM and it lasted for some time. A militant was killed in the firing. From the slain militant, we recovered one 9 mm Browning pistol, one 36 high explosive grenade, one magazine, five live rounds and four rounds," Assam Inspector General of Police (BTAD), LR Bishnoi was quoted as saying by The Asian Age.
Narzary was said to be the section commander of NDFB-S. The IGP said that he was trained in handling various weapons and was also responsible for supplying foods to the outfit.
NDFB-S militants had killed at least 40 people, including several women and childern, in the districts of Kokrajhar and Sonitpur in Assam in December 2014.
