UPDATE
After fans complained against 2K taking off the save files for NBA 2K14, the company has now restored its online services for a limited time. The online functionality of the game has been restored for another nine months i.e. till January 2016. This will allow players to finish their single-player career modes.
They have further gone on to declare that the online lifespan of all the NBA 2K games will be extended from 18 to 27 months. It added that the community reaction impacts its business decisions.
2K said in a statement that, "It gives our players more time to experience and enjoy the highest rated NBA simulation video game franchise," GameSpot reported.
ORIGINAL STORY
The shuttering down of the NBA 2K14's servers on 31 March has affected many players, despite assurances of 2K Sports.
"Online files will not disappear, but rather they will turn to offline saves and earn skill points as opposed to VC," 2K Sports told Polygon.
It had assured players on PS4 and Xbox One that the online saves would be converted to offline saves when the servers go down. However, many have now lost their files.
However, Polygon reported that 2K is "retiring" even the save files and gives the 2K Support page as proof:
"This means that if you had created a MyCareer or a MyGM online save file that was once connected to our servers it too sadly has retired and is no longer available for use and it would be necessary to re-create these files as offline saves," 2K reported.
"Sadly this may come as an inconvenience to some of you and if so we truly do understand and can feel for how upsetting this may seem as there always is a special bond that occurs between a player and their MyCareer save but all good things must come to an end and rest assured your MyCareer or MyGM went out while on top!"
The report goes on to say that players can still play the career modes in NBA 2K14, but they will have to start from the beginning. However, they will be quick games and offline modes. The report says that it has reached out to 2K Sports wanting to know if players will face the same issues in NBA 2K15.
