Rohan Sippy's comedy of errors "Nautanki Saala", after a rocking start in India, has set the cash registers ringing in overseas theatres as well.
The comedy film, starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Kunal Roy Kapur, has raked in approximately ₹60.73 lakh from 72 screens in the US and UK box offices in the opening weekend.
#NautankiSaala *opening weekend* UK £ 12,016 [₹10.07 lacs] from 11 screens and USA $ 92,851 [₹50.66 lacs] from 61 screens," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh tweeted.
The business of "Nautanki Saala" was best in UAE circuits, Adarsh said.
In India, "Nautanki Saala" has topped the collection chart after earning ₹13.25 crore in its opening weekend. The film is facing neck-to-neck competition with Vidyut Jamwal's action film "Commando".
The film made with a budget of ₹15 crore has earned back its production cost.
The Rohan Sippy-directed film is an official adaptation of French film "Apres Vous". It also features Pooja Salvi and Evelyn Sharma in female lead roles.
Meanwhile, Ekta Kapoor and Vishal Bhawdwaj's supernatural film "Ek Thi Daayan" is set to release this week. The film features Emraan Hashmi, Konkana Sen Sharma, Kalki Koechlin and Huma Qureshi in lead roles.
Though "Ek Thi Daayan" might not draw in a higher audience count than "Nautanki Saala" and "Commando," screenings of the previous two releases will come down, ultimately affecting their collections at the box office.
