There are but a joys to be had in life and these experiences are undoubtedly better when you share it with your sister. Anyone who is blessed with a sister will know that this sibling relationship is indeed unique. A sister is not just someone you share a room with, but she often takes on the role of a parent, a friend, a confidante and she does all of this sans judgement. Well, most sisters try to anyway. In honour of this special relationship, National Sister's Day is celebrated in the United States on the first Sunday in August. In 2016, the day is being celebrated on Sunday, August 7.
Interestingly, Sister's Day falls around the same time as Raksha Bandhan, an Indian festival that acknowledges the special bond between sisters and brothers. Although Indian women celebrate it by tying a band around their brother's wrist, you could do it a little differently for Sister's Day.
In case you're lost for words or confused about how you can express your gratitude to your sister, here are a few messages, quotes and wishes that capture the essence of this relationship.
Bugged me but hugged me too,
Tickled me but treated me too,
With a sister like you I know I'll always have a friend.
Happy Sister Day.
