It has not been too long since the start of the 35th National Games, which kickstarted on 31st of January in Kerala, but it has already grabbed the headlines with the tragic death of a netball player.
The player, Mayuresh Pawar,representing Maharashtra drowned while taking photos at the Shamkumugham beach.
Though, media reports initially suggested that the player died of cardiac arrest, a post mortem report reflected the presence of water and sand in his internal organs, as per the police.
The National Games Secretariat officials stated that Pawar along with some other team members had visited the beach for sightseeing.
A NGS official said, "He was on his way back to the room after a practice session at the indoor stadium at Vellayani near here along with his other team members. Though he was rushed to the hospital, doctors declared him dead," as was quoted by Deccan Chronicle.
Due to the tragic incident, all cultural programmes at the venues and in the games village were cancelled as a mark of respect for the player, who lost his life.
