Nasa has released an incredible video made up of ultra-high-definition images of the sun. The images of its surface were taken by the agencys space-based telescope, the Solar Dynamics Observatory. Captured in 12-second intervals in 10 wavelengths of invisible ultraviolet light, each wavelength highlights a different temperature which is then assigned a colour to create a thermonuclear display of the stars surface.
The images were then compiled together to create an amazing astral time-lapse showing several active regions of the sun, the usual source of solar storms. The footage also shows magnetic field lines radiating from the stars surface and twisting into curves. The Solar Dynamics Observatory is studying how solar activity is created and how space weather results from that activity.
