Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the most followed Indian on Twitter, while Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone leads the female category for 2016.

Twitter has named PM Modi and Deepika in a list of top 10 most followed Indians on the micro-blogging site. Modi tops the list with 25.2 million followers. The PM is followed by megastar Amitabh Bachchan with 23.8 million followers. Big B had held the numero uno position in the race for a long time, but Modi has now achieved the feat.

Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan come next in the list one by one with 22.4 million, 20.6 million and 19.2 million followers respectively. Although Deepika is the sixth person among the most followed Indians on Twitter, she is the first as far as female personalities are concerned.
Deepika is the most followed Indian woman on Twitter with 16.7 million followers. Priyanka Chopra is just one million behind Deepika in the race and secured the seventh slot with 15.7 million followers.
Two other Bollywood celebrities claimed the eighth and ninth positions. Hrithik Roshan has 15.5 million followers, while Akshay Kumar is in ninth position with 15.3 million followers. Last in the top 10 list is cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar with 13.7 million followers.

Deepika is also apparently the most followed Indian celebrity on Instagram and Priyanka is just after her. Deepika has 13.4 million followers on Instagram, while Priyanka holds 12.7 million followers on the site.
