Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met the service chiefs of the Indian Army, Navy and Air Force to discuss the current situation in Kashmir and India's response to the Uri attacks that took place on Sunday morning.
The early morning attack on the heavily-guarded Army Brigade Headquarters in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir claimed the lives of 18 soldiers and critically injured 12 others. Four terrorists, suspected to belong to Jaish-e-Mohammed, were also neutralised in the attack.
The fire engulfed the temporary shelters when the terrorists attacked the headquarters around 5.30 am on Sunday resulting in the heavy casualties.
Several weapons, including four AK-47 rifles and four Under Barrel Grenade Launchers, were seized from the terrorists. A few objects recovered had Pakistani markings on them.
Modi had condemned the Uri attack, saying that the attackers would not go unpunished for their despicable act.
