Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the Skill India mission as he stressed upon giving impetus to entrepreneurship.
Speaking after launching the Skill India mission on the occasion of World Youth Skills Day, the prime minister said, "Today the world is celebrating World Youth Skills Day and we are also contributing to the same. Through a policy driven approach we have waged a war against poverty and we have to win this war."
Observing that the Skill India mission "is aimed at fulfilling dreams", Modi said, "India's youth is not happy simply asking for things. He or she wants to live with pride and dignity."
"We want opportunities to increase. That is why we have not restricted ourselves to skills, we have focussed on entrepreneurship," he said, adding, "This initiative is not merely to fill pockets but to bring a sense of self-confidence among the poor."
"Through this mission we want to fulfil dreams of people and we want to do it in a structured way, taking states together. We have to create structures and mechanisms to nurture youngsters, enabling them to find employment," he said.
"We need to give impetus to entrepreneurship... We want opportunities to increase. That is why we have not restricted ourselves to skills, we have focussed on entrepreneurship. Our training institutions must become dynamic. Look at the way technology is changing things," Modi said.
