Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu is all set to take oath as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh this evening.
Naidu and his council of ministers will be sworn in at a grand ceremony at Nagarjuna Nagar between Vijayawada and Guntur. Governor ESL Narasimhan will administer the oath of office. After a 10-year stint as the leader of opposition, Naidu will become the first CM of the new Andhra Pradesh.
The new AP has 13 districts, while Telangana was carved out with 10 districts. On 2 June, Telangana officially became India's 23rd state and Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) party chief Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) was sworn in as the Chief Minister of the newly formed state.
While the oath-taking function was a small affair for KCR, TDP workers are leaving no stone unturned to make Naidu's swearing-in ceremony a "memorable" one.
Massive arrangements have been made for the function as almost 5 lakh people are expected to attend. Special trains and buses have been arranged to move the public to the oath-taking venue.
Several political leaders including LK Advani, Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Prakash Javadekar, Nirmala Seetharaman, Venkaiah Naidu, Sadananda Gowda, Ananth Kumar and Piyush Goyal will attend the grand event. Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa, Chief Minister of Odisha Naveen Patnaik and Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh Raman Singh are also expected to attend the function.
Film stars Jr NTR, Pawan Kalyan and Kalyan Ram, as well as several VVIPs will also be present for the swearing-in. YSR Congress president YS Jaganmohan Reddy and KCR were also invited but they decided to give the event a miss.
