Junior NTR's "Nannaku Prematho" has garnered massive response at the US box office in the first weekend. It has beaten the lifetime collection record of "Attarintiki Daredi" in just five days.
Cine Gallaxy, which has earlier distributed "Manam" and "Bhale Bale Magadivoy" in the international markets, has bought the overseas distribution rights of "Nannaku Prematho" for a whopping price of Rs 6.20 crore. The distribution house booked over 192 screens in North America for Junior NTR's 25th movie. It also held paid previews in hundreds of locations across the country on Tuesday night.
"Nannaku Prematho" received an earth-shattering response at the premiere show and collected $355,321 at the US box office. The movie broke the record of "Attarintiki Daredi", which earned $345,000 in its premiere show. The film became the fourth highest grosser in the paid previews after "Baahubali", "Aagadu" and "Srimanthudu", which have grossed $1,010,550, $533K and $500K, respectively, in the premiere shows.
The Sukumar directorial, which is a family drama, has garnered positive talk from the audience in the country and the word-of-mouth was expected to boost its collection on the following days. But the movie made an average business on Wednesday and Thursday as they were weekdays and offices and colleges were open. However, the film maintained rock-steady form on the following days.
"Nannaku Prematho" has collected approximately $1,631,799 (Rs 11.05 crore) at the US box office in its five-day extended first weekend. Its day-wise breakup is $355,321 in premiere, $235,965 on Wednesday, $124,805 on Thursday, $264,391 on Friday, $385,403 on Saturday and $260,726 on Sunday. Its per-screen average stands at $8,498.
The Junior NTR and Rakul Preet Singh starrer has beaten the lifetime collection record of "Attarintiki Daredi", "Manam", "Aagadu", "S/o Satyamurthy" and "Baadshah" in five days. It has become the third all-time highest grosser Telugu movie at the US box office after "Baahubali" and "Srimanthudu". The movie is now heading towards the mark of $2 million.
Leading Indian trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, "Telugu film #NannakuPrematho crosses Rs 11 cr in USA. Strong word of mouth translates into magical numbers at the BO. Superstar Mahesh Babu's "Srimanthudu" is the second all-time highest grosser Telugu movie in the US with its collection $2,882,809. It should be seen whether "Nannaku Prematho" will push "Srimanthudu" down to the third spot in the coming days.
