Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu kept aside his office and duty after he learned about the death of his brother-in-law Nandamuri Harikrishna. He was completely involved in the funeral.
Nandamuri Harikrishna died in a car accident near in Nalgonda, 100 km from Hyderabad on August 29. The news about his untimely death came as a rude shock for the TDP and N Chandrababu Naidu, who is married to his sister and late NTR's daughter Nara Bhuvaneshwari, was shattered by this development.
Soon after hearing the news about his death, N Chandrababu Naidu kept aside all his duty of the Chief Minister's office and went to the hospital where Harikrishna breathed his last while undergoing treatment. From bringing his body to Hyderabad to performing his funeral, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister was there at every step and was apparently least bothered about his security status.
Chandrababu Naidu reportedly spoke to Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, got a special place to perform Harikrishna's last rights at Mahaprasthanam in Jubilee Hills, Hyderabad. Nandamuri family boasts of huge fan following and there was the threat of controlling his crazy crowd during the funeral process. He also got these security arrangements as well as the state honour done by the Telangana government.
The people with his status have a protocols, when they attend the last rites of their loved ones and family members. They limit their action to laying wreaths on the mortal remains, paying tributes and offering condolences. But the Indian history has very few instances of a Chief Minister carrying the dead body on his shoulder.
Breaking this protocol, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister accompanied Balakrishna and other members of his family and the TDP, carried Harikrishna's mortal remains on his shoulders with them. He was seen keeping his body in the vehicle of the funeral procession. He was also seen doing Pradhakshina of fire, carrying his body on his shoulders with Balakrishna and others.
It was not an easy thing for N Chandrababu Naidu, as there were security threats for him. But the AP CM was little bothered about them, as he got involved himself in the whole process. All this honour shows how respect Naidu have for the contribution of Nandamuri Harikrishna for the TDP and he deserves it.
