American software major, Microsoft on Monday (2 March) officially unveiled the new smartphones Lumia 640 with a phablet variant Lumia 640 XL at the ongoing MWC(Mobile World Congress) 2015, Barcelona.
"Today we announced two new, affordable Lumia phones: the Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL , both of which give people the flexibility to do more anywhere, and at any time. These phones will be upgradable to Windows 10, when it becomes available later this year," said Stephen Elop, Executive Vice President of the Microsoft Devices Group.
First up, the new Lumia 640, understood to be successor of Lumia 535 sports a 5.0-inch IPS ClearBlack LCD screen and ships with the latest Windows Phone 8.1 (with Lumia Denim update) OS, 1.2GHZ Snapdragon 400 series quad-core SoC (System on Chip), 1GB RAM, 8GB inbuilt memory and 2500 mAh battery which can run the phone for close to 36 days under standby mode.
On the other hand, Lumia 640 XL features a mammoth 5.7-inch HD IPS ClearBlack screen and runs on the Windows Phone 8.1 with Lumia Denim update, 1.2GHz Snapdragon 400 CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB memory, and 3000 mAh battery.
Other note worthy feature of the XL model is that it boasts of 13.0-mp camera with Zeiss Optics, LED flash, f/2.0 aperture, auto-focus, 1/3-inch sensor size, Lumia Camera 5, full HD video recording. And on the front, it houses a 5.0-mp wide-angle snapper with a full HD video recording feature.

The company has confirmed that Lumia 640 comes in two models -3G and 4G - for €139(around $156/₹9,660) and €159 (around $178/₹11,050) respectively in April across select regions of the globe.
Lumia 640 XL too comes in two models -3G and 4G - for €139(around $156/₹9,660) and €159 (around $178/₹11,050) respectively and are said to hit stores in select markets later this month in single and smart-dual SIM variants.
