Its a sad day for the music world as legendary singer/songwriter David Bowie has died. The 69-year-old lost an 18-month battle with cancer on 10 January. In a statement confirming the news, Bowies spokesperson said: While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the familys privacy during their time of grief. He is survived by his wife, Iman, and children Duncan and Alexandria.
Bowie had released 25th album Blackstar on his birthday just three days before his death and it is expected to top the UK charts on 15 January. The record bookmarks what has been an incredible career spanning almost five decades, including nine UK number one albums and hit singles such as Space Oddity, Heroes, Lets Dance and The Man Who Sold The World.
Tributes have poured in, with the likes of Prime Minister David Cameron and musicians Billy Idol and Kanye West among those praising the legend. From his extravagant fashion sense to his musical talents, Bowie is undoubtedly one of musics finest shining stars. He may no longer be with us but his music will live on.
