Deepika Padukone has auditioned for a role in Tom Cruise's "The Mummy" reboot, but the word is the makers are considering other options. Even Huma Qureshi was apparently being considered at one point.
"They are looking at other options. Even if Deepika doesn't make the cut, the very fact that she was in the running for an important role in a Tom Cruise starrer is quite a high in itself," a source told SpotboyE. If she makes the cut, this will be her second Hollywood film; she's currently shooting for "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" with Vin Diesel, Ruby Rose, Tony Jaa and Nina Dobrev, among others. The schedule is expected to come to a close by the end of May.
Meanwhile, back home, she will reportedly be seen in a Salman Khan film. From what is being reported, she may either feature in Kabir Khan's project "Tubelight" or Rajkumar Santoshi's action-comedy. However, the "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" director said he hasn't approached Deepika, adding that he has no idea where the news came from.
"I have never spoken to Deepika about the film. The earlier news that Deepika would be a part of the film was a rumour, but still spread like fire. So, naturally, the news that she isn't doing the film does not surprise me, because I didn't even discuss it with her," ANI quoted him as saying.
There has been talk that she may be keen on doing the Saina Nehwal biopic. A few days before she left for Canada for the "XXX" threequel, she had said she would love to portray the sportsperson on celluloid.
