A trustee from a renowned international school in Andheri East and another person were booked earlier last month for assaulting a four-year-old kindergarten student, police have said. Reports say that no arrests have been made as the trustee is travelling abroad.
On May 18, the girl's parents had filed a complaint about the incident at the MIDC police station. In their complaint, they had alleged that their daughter was sexually assaulted by one of the trustees back in October 2016. The police explained that the incident came to light when later that month, the girl's mother asked her about the marks on daughter's body.
"The complainants first approached an NGO for advice. They were directed to approach the police," said an officer at the MIDC police station.
Spending several months seeking legal opinion, the girl's parents finally lodged an FIR on May 18. Media reports say that the police conducted a medical examination of the girl recently, as she had been abroad with her parents on a holiday.
The two accused have been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, said Rashmi Karandikar, Mumbai police spokesperson and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations).
"The trustee teaches higher classes and his daily schedule does not take him to the kindergarten section. We are probing how he came in contact with the girl," said the officer.
