A part of Karan Johar's most-ambitious film Kalank's set, which was erected at Chitrakoot Grounds in Mumbai, recently collapsed after suffering damage due to heavy rainfall. The shoot of the film has now come to a halt.
"The team was to shoot a 20-day schedule starting July 31. Now, the shoot is postponed for at least two weeks as dates for all the cast members who have scenes together had to be reworked. The makers have decided to wait for the rains to let up before resuming shoot," a source was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
The film's team had earlier shot a few portions at the location and rebuilding of the set is expected to begin soon. A huge set worth Rs 15 crore, designed by Amrita Mahal Nakai, has been erected in Film City, which is under heavy security to ensure that pictures of the interiors are not leaked.
Since the movie is based in the 1940s, the set has been designed keeping that particular period in mind. Kalank tells the story of the time when blacksmiths and prostitutes joined hands and defeated the British after putting up a brave fight.
The first 15 minutes of the film will reportedly have an intense action sequence, and Varun Dhawan has already shot the whole sequence in a single take.
Varun will reportedly be seen playing a Muslim blacksmith whose shop will be in the famous Lahore market called Heera Mandi which was later turned into a red light area by the British.
Madhuri Dixit will be playing prostitutes' leader while Sonakshi Sinha will be playing the role of a banjaran (migrant). Aditya Roy Kapur will play the role of an artisan who teams up with Varun Dhawan to start a rebellion against the British government.
The movie is slated for release on April 19, 2019.
