The Mumbai police reportedly detained two women after allegedly beating them up during Ganesh Visarjan procession at Lalbaugcha Raja on Friday night.
The act of police was caught on camera. In a video, three women constables can be seen manhandling the two women.
The reason behind the assault is yet to be ascertained.
According to reports, one of the victims was identified as Nandini Deepak Goswami, a resident of Mira Road area.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered an inquiry into the incident.
"Conduct of women police personnel is regrettable, guilty will be punished after inquiry," ANI quoted Mumbai police PRO Mohan Dahikar as saying.
