The incident took place around 7.50 am on 17 August near Jenkins House on Henry Road. The case was registered on Tuesday based on American national Maryanna Abdo's complaint.
Abdo had posted the culprit's picture, which was taken after he allegedly masturbated at her, on Twitter soon after the incident took place. She sought the help of Twitterati to identify the culprit and help her get him arrested.
As her post went viral on social media, it caught the attention of officials at the Maharashtra Chief Minister's office. The Twitter handle, CMO Maharashtra tweeted that CM Devendra Fadnavis "has directed Joint CP Deven Bharti to look into it. Please follow us so that we will DM you contact details."

Following this, Abdo pulled down the post with the culprit's photo and thanked Twitterati "for the overwhelming support".
"On Monday morning I tweeted a picture of a man who had behaved in a sexually inappropriate manner towards me here in Mumbai. I wanted to say thank you for the overwhelming support I have received from so many people across India about this incident," she tweeted.
"I am now in touch with the police here and am handing this matter over to them. I have therefore decided to take down the picture," she said in another tweet.
