Actor Vinu Chakravarthy, who had worked in Tamil, Malayalam and many other languages, passed away on Thursday, 27 April. He was aged 72 and was suffering from age-related issues.

He is survived by his wife Karnapoo, son Saravanan, and daughter Shanmuga Priya.. His body has been kept for the public homage at his Chennai residence. Many celebrities have expressed their condolences over the passing of the veteran actor.

Before entering film industry, Vinu Chakravarthy had worked as a Reserve Sub-inspector and in the Southern Railways. He got an opportunity to work as a script writer under legendary Kannada filmmaker Puttanna Kanagal.
His career took a different turn when Vinu Chakravarthy came in contact with producer Tiruppur Mani, who offered him a role in Kannada movie Parasangada Gendethimma. Since then, he worked in over 1000 movies in different languages.
Apart from acting, he also tried his hands in scriptwriting and direction for some South Indian projects. Superstar Rajinikanth, with whom Vinu acted in more than 25 superhit films, used to call him the "lucky token".
The Tamil movie, "Muni", which released in 2007, was his 1,000th movie.The other notable films of Chakravarthy include Meleparambil Aanveedu (1993), Amarkalam (1999), Thenkashippattanam (2000) and Vaayai Moodi Pesavum (2014).
The actor was known for his comedic, supporting and villainous roles in South Indian films. He was credited for introducing Silk Smitha to films.
