Kiccha Sudeep and Upendra's Mukunda Murari is off to a good start at the Karnataka box office. The Kannada movie has opened to positive reviews and has performed well despite clashing with Yash and Radhika Pandit's Santhu Straight Forward.
Mukunda Murari was released in over 250 screens in Karnataka and has registered an average occupancy of 70 percent in key centres. The makers of the Kannada movie had done extensive promotions resulting in good opening, say trade experts.
"Sudeep and Upendra have promoted the film in print (English and Kannada dailies) and electronic media. The superstars marketed Mukunda Murari on Twitter too with 'question and answer' session between them. These factors ensured to give a good opening for the film," a source from the trade informs International Business Times, India.
It is interesting to note that Mukunda Murari has done well in rural areas than in urban centres and it is a concern for the film. "It is a remake of Bollywood's hit film Oh My God and a section of Kannadigas, especially audience in cities, do not like remake films. Hence, it has to be seen how the film will perform at the box office in the days to come," the source adds.
However, the makers are happy with the response from the audience and critics. With Mukunda Murari getting better reviews than Santhu Straight Forward, the Kannada film is expected to better its business in the next few days.
Moreover, the Deepavali and Kannada Rajyotsava holiday season is expected to be a big blessing for the Kannada films as the turnout of the audience to theatres will be high.
Mukunda Murari is directed by Nanda Kishore of Victory and Ranna fame. Nikita Thukral, Devaraj, Ravishankar and others are also in the cast.
