Sudeep and Upendra's Mukunda Murari has successfully completed its first week in theatres. The Kannada movie was released on the occasion of Deepavali and has capitalised on the festival season by doing fantastic business.
Mukunda Murari had released in over 250 screens on October 28. The good promotions by the makers and the actors ensured to give a decent opening for the Kannada movie. The film was opened to fairly positive reviews and the good word-of-mouth boosted the collection of the film in the following days.
By the end of its first week, Mukundra Murari has grossed a little over Rs 10 crore, as per the trade experts. The movie had a direct clash with Yash's Santhu Straight Forward, which has earned Rs 13.5 crore in seven days.
"Mukunda Murari should have done a better business, considering big names in the cast. The movie would have made over Rs 12 crore if it had a solo release. The release of Yash's movie along with some non-Kannada films had major impact on the collection of Sudeep and Upendra's film," says a trade expert.
The makers are hoping that the business will see growth in its second weekend.
Mukunda Murari is a remake of Bollywood hit film Oh My God. Nanda Kishore of Victory and Ranna fame has directed the movie produced by B Jayashree Devi.
It is a satirical-comedy film, which has Nikita Thukral in the female lead role. The story of the film revolves around atheist Mukunda (Upendra) and Lord Krishna aka Murari (Sudeep).
