Last week's two big releases "Mukunda" starring Varun Tej and "Chinnadana Nee Kosam" (CNK) starring Nithiin have made decent collections at the worldwide box office in the first week.
Varun Tej's debut film "Mukunda", which had created lot of positive buzz before its release, hit the screens on 24 December and opened to an overwhelming response on its the first day. But a mixed word-of-mouth and release of "Chinnadana Nee Kosam" took a toll on its business over the weekend.
"Mukunda" further lost pace on Monday and continued to slide on the following days too. The movie has collected ₹10 crore in the five-day extended first weekend and ₹5 crore on the weekdays. It has raked in approximately ₹15 crore at the worldwide box office in the nine-day extended first week.
Another new film "Chinnadana Nee Kosam", which released in theatres on 25 December, also got superb response at the ticket counters on its opening day. Like "Mukunda", the Nithiin and Mishti starrer also received mixed talk from both viewers and film critics, which took down its business on its opening weekend and weekdays.
"Chinnadana Nee Kosam" has collected ₹9 crore in the four-day extended weekend and ₹5 crore on weekdays. The Nithiin starrer has grossed a total of ₹14 crore at the worldwide box office in eight-day extended first week. It has landed at the second place, while the Varun Tej starrer topped the Tollywood's business chart.
"Mukunda" and "Chinnadana Nee Kosam" have been made with whopping budgets of ₹12 crore and ₹20 crore, respectively. The Varun Tej starrer has already recovered its production cost and a decent amount of profit. Whereas the Nithiin starrer has earned 75% of it making cost and is expected to recover in the second week.
However, "Raghuvaran BTech", "A Shyam Gopal Varma Film" and "Mana Kurralle" hit the screens on 1 January. It should be seen whether they will allow "Mukunda" and "Chinnadana Nee Kosam" to continue their rocking run at the box office in their second week.
