Sushant Singh Rajput's MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has opened to a stunning response at the Tamil Nadu box office. The movie has apparently become the biggest opener for a Hindi dubbed film in the state.
Released in over 230 screens in Tamil and Hindi languages, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story registered above 60 percent occupancy in Chennai and other key centres in Tamil Nadu. The trade experts have said that the flick has approximately earned Rs 1.85 crore from the two versions in the state on its first day.
The Tamil version of Mahendra Singh Dhoni's biopic has been released in over 205 screens, while the Hindi version has seen the light of the day in about 30. It is a big screen count for a movie, which does not have an A-list actor in the cast. Only the movies of big names like Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Aamir Khan and Hrithik Roshan have witnessed such a wide release in the state until now.
As the film is MS Dhoni's biopic, the distributor released it in a big way. MS Dhoni is a popular cricketer in Tamil Nadu just like in any other part of India. But it is his association with now banned Chennai Super Kings at the Indian Premiere League that brought him closer to the hearts of Tamils.
Dhoni had led Indian Premier League team Chennai Super Kings, which is under suspension following the Supreme Court's order for the alleged involvement of their owners in the 2013 IPL betting case. His association helped him garner huge fan following in every nook and corner of Tamil Nadu.
His popularity has now reflected on huge response that his biopic has received in Tamil Nadu. The good word-of-mouth is expected to boost the collection of the flick in the days to come.
The Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer film is directed by Neeraj Pandey.
