The makers of MS Dhoni: The Untold Story have more reasons to celebrate. After hitting a six at the box office, the film has been made tax-free in three states. The biopic on Indian cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni has now been declared tax-free in Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand.
Earlier, the state governments of Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh had waived the entertainment tax, and now Maharashtra has followed the step. This means that the ticket sales might increase, as the ticket prices will drop due to the tax-free label.
"We are humbled and extremely thankful to the CM of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and his esteemed team for making Mahi's biopic tax-free in the state. Mahi's journey is an extremely inspiration one and through this more people will get to see the movie and see the life of this amazing sportsman," producer Arun Pandey said in a statement.
The film, starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Kiara Advani, has been doing exceptionally well at the domestic box office. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story recorded the second highest opening day collection and is now the fifth highest grosser of the year. The film has made a total box office collection of Rs 94.13 crore in its first week.
Sushant delivers 2016's most celebrated performance
Sushant has hit a six with his performance as Dhoni in the biopic. Not only critics, but even audience have praised the actor for portraying the role of the Indian skipper to the perfection. The actor has been praised for Dhoni's qualities, including steadfastness to the oddly effete nail-biting manner, all in his gait, demeanour, attitude and gaze.
Directed by Neeraj Pandey, the film also features Anupam Kher, Disha Patani and Bhumika Chawla in pivotal roles.
