Sushant Singh Rajput-starrer MS Dhoni: The Untold Story has struck gold at the Tamil Nadu box office. The Tamil movie has made an earth-shattering collection in its 3-day first weekend in the state.
Following the fantastic response to its advance booking, MS Dhoni: The Untold Story looked promising to perform well during the first weekend. Also, the good word-of-mouth ensured that the film ends its first weekend on a high note.
The film earned Rs 1.85 crore on its first day in Tamil Nadu and it is said to be the highest number for a dubbed Hindi film. The positive response boosted the collection on its second day as it earned Rs 2.10 crore to take its 2-day total to Rs 3.95 crore.
On its third day, the business saw a massive growth as it minted Rs 3.05 crore to take its first weekend total tally to Rs 7 crore from Tamil and Hindi versions. It is a very big number for a Hindi film, given the fact that the film does not have an A-list actor. In Chennai alone, the film has grossed Rs 94.32 lakh in three days.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story was released in 323 screens in two languages (Tamil -205 and Hindi -27). Following the positive reviews, the screen count is expected to be increased from Monday, October 3.
The film is a biopic on cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni. MS Dhoni is a popular cricketer in Tamil Nadu just like in any other part of India. But it is his association with now banned Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premiere League that brought him closer to the hearts of Tamils.
As a result, the film has done so well at the Tamil Nadu box office, say trade experts.
