Sushant Singh Rajput hit it out of the park with M. S. Dhoni: The Untold Story. With the Neeraj Pandey-directed film, the young actor became the newest member of the Rs 100 crore club.
The biopic has collected Rs. 132.85 crore till its fourth week at the domestic box office. Trade expert Taran Adarsh confirmed the numbers on social media, he posted: #MSDhoniTheUntoldStory [Week 4] Mon 41 lacs, Tue 38 lacs, Wed 32 lacs, Thu 31 lacs. Total: Rs. 132.85 cr. India biz. EXCELLENT!
The steady decline in figures is not unusual or shocking. MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is in its fourth week, so the numbers were bound to show a fall. It was smooth for the film all these weeks because there weren't major releases. But now with Ae Dil Hai Mushkil and Shivaay taking up over 5,000 screens, the biopic will mostly be wiped out of screens.
Positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth helped the film achieve impressive numbers. Also, Rajput's on-point performance of cricketing star MS Dhoni helped the film earn the tag of one of the best biopics ever made.
The Rajput-starrer has been running successfully not just in the domestic circuits but also globally. It is now on Bollywood's highest worldwide grossers list.
This hit was needed and crucial to Rajput. The talented star had shown a lot of promise in Kai Po Che, his debut film, but his career never really took off. PK was a hit, but didn't have him in the lead and the other two films he appeared in — Shuddh Desi Romance and Detective Byomkesh Bakshy — didn't really make an impression.
In other news, he will be next seen in Paani alongside Kriti Sanon.
