Indian cricket captain, Mahendra Singh Dhoni became a father on Friday 6 February, after his wife Sakshi gave birth to a baby girl at a private hospital in Gurgaon.
The good news came just a week ahead of ICC Cricket World Cup, which begins on 14 February 2015.
Proud Dhoni, who is currently in Australia preparing for the matches, however, has kept the tournament on priority and has no plans to fly back to India to be with his wife and newborn.
Dhoni, talking to NDTV Sports regarding his newborn, said: "Yes, I have been blessed with a baby daughter. Both mom and child are fine."
When asked if he plans to return home for a few days, Dhoni replied: "No, I am on national duty. World Cup is important for me and I rather be here."
The baby was born in Fortis Hospital and weighs 3.7 kgs, reported PTI. Dhoni and Sakshi have been married since 4 July 2010.
Meanwhile, the 33-year-old cricketer, who became a father for the first time, has been receiving blessings from his fans all over the world. Bollywood celebs and sportspersons too are congratulating the couple on their parenthood.
Congratulations to @msdhoni and Sakshi on the arrival of their angel. Welcome to the club guys. Good bless.
