Yash Raj Film's upcoming venture, Thugs of Hindostan, has been making news ever since Aamir Khan and Amitabh Bachchan came on board as lead actors. However, the makers have been finding it difficult in finalising the female lead. While speculations were rife that Alia Bhatt and Vaani Kapoor were in the race, it now seems a television actress has pipped them.
According to reports, Mrunal Thakur, who rose to fame as Bulbul in the popular show Kumkum Bhagya, has been considered as the female lead of the film. The actress has also taken the look test. If Mrunal bags the role it would be a golden opportunity for her to make a debut in Bollywood in a Yash Raj production as well as share screen space with industry stalwarts.
The report said that although Aamir was keen on working with Alia, there was a problem with her dates, as the makers were keen on rolling the cameras by early 2017.
"Aamir was keen to have Alia Bhatt paired opposite him, but she doesn't have dates till next year and Adi and Aamir want to start the film by early 2017," an industry source told the DNA.
Later, Vaani's name was suggested by Adi but the Dangal actor apparently wanted a fresh face.
"...Aamir wasn't too keen. He felt a completely fresh face would be better. Kumkum Bhagya actress Mrunal Thakur is being considered for the role and has undergone a look test already," the source added.
Mrunal had earlier tried for a look test for Sultan opposite Salman Khan, but things did not work out for her.
Meanwhile, Mrunal is set to go global by starring in Slumdog Millionaire producer Tabrez Noorani's film Love Sonia. The film will see the actress in lead role.
