Stan Lee, who is known for creating some of the most prominent Marvel comic book characters like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, the X-Men, Hulk and Doctor Strange, is all set to appear in a lead role in an upcoming movie.
Though the film will feature Lee as the protagonist, it won't be his biopic and will rather cast him as the lead character, most probably as an action hero. Recent reports have stated that the film will be set in the 1970s.
The movie adaptation rights of Stan Lee's life have been acquired by Twentieth Century Fox. Fox also owns rights to several Marvel Comics characters like the X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four.
The Stan Lee movie will be produced by Marty Bowen and Wyck Godfrey, who have previously worked on films like "Twilight," "The Maze Runner," and the upcoming reboot of "Power Rangers."
Reports state that the producers want the movie in a tone that is something akin to "Kinsman: The Secret Service" and Roger Moore's James Bond films. Hence, Stan Lee's character is expected to be competent, flirtatious and witty; something that he has been doing in all the cameo roles in various Marvel movies where he has appeared yet.
Comic Book has stated the movie's plot as the era of 70s when Lee moved to Hollywood in order to get Marvel's characters on the big screen. Most of his attempts were unsuccessful and a significant part of the story will cover Lee's struggle with surviving in Hollywood and make it big through his various characters.
Lee started working in Marvel Comics (formerly known as Timely) in 1939. However, it didn't help him much both financially and creatively. Hence, by 1960s, he decided to quit the industry. That was when his wife advised him to try writing the kind of story that he wanted to and not what his superiors ordered him to. As a result, Lee penned down "Fantastic Four #1" along with artist Jack Kirby, which proved to be a breakthrough in the comic book industry and gave birth to Marvel Universe.
Fox hasn't announced any release date of the movie as there has been no writer assigned to the project yet. However, fans can expect updates regarding the film very soon.
