Italys volcano Mount Etna leapt into action on Sunday (6 December), shooting bright red lava into the night sky. The worlds most active volcano, on the Mediterranean island, has been putting on an impressive display over the last few days. The volcano has been largely dormant for the last two years and the recent eruptions have brought many volcano tourists out to spend the night on the side of the mountain to watch the show.
Nearby Catanias airport has only just reopened after being closed during the first week of December due to ash clouds causing security concerns. Etna, at 3,330 metres, is the highest volcano in mainland Europe.
